Artist Statement:
My work and interests revolve around abstract and quiet concepts. These range from the metaphorical to the physical and, most recently, take the form of complex sculptural forms. Beginning in my college art classes, I focus on mindfulness and meditation, bringing these concepts into my studio and allowing them to influence my work. I am very interested in the viewer’s experience of my work and how they perceive a piece, lending more emphasis on this individual, personal interpretation rather than my inserted, pre-determined ideas. To help communicate these concepts, I most often turn toward elements of craft and verb-induced action, prompting an intimate, slow-going, and dexterous practice. I incorporate this practice into every corner of my life, from my artistic work to my writing, and from my social life to my personal life.
